The area around Lincoln, Mass., is not quite as rural as it was when Henry David Thoreau wandered the nearby woods. But that’s not for lack of effort from residents./ Forbes

Traditional Estates with Modern House Stone Copper

Traditional country estates mix with striking modern houses. The home was designed by architect Michael Rosenfeld, and was built in 2000.

The dramatic two-story steel structure has walls of glass that let in the 360-degree views of water, woods and hills. Inside and out, it is clad in richly-hued woods, including western red cedar, Swiss pear wood and tiger maple. Stone and copper also play strong roles in the house’s design.

Harmony was created to look like it undulates, with curves throughout–the walls are rounded, the doors and windows gracefully bent. The open staircase, made from walnut and hand-worked iron, wraps up towards the second story.

The kitchen has granite countertops and Swiss pear wood cabinets. The estate also has an exercise room, home theater, and a 2,800-square-foot pagoda made of mahogany and stone.
